Kwong Satay, Singapore, Singapore

Sometimes you just have to go slightly out of the way to get some good food. I made a special detour to Kwong Satay whilst I was on holiday in Singapore, as I have heard from people singing praises about their pork belly satay, so I thought I’d check the place out.

The place was not difficult to find and it’s not too inconvenient if you come by bus. It’s a bit of a walk from the MRT station though – still it’s a pleasant walk (as long as you don’t mind the tropical heat).

The most famous thing here was the pork belly satay and so I ordered 10 sticks of them. And then I saw the BBQ chicken wings too, and I thought I’d buy a couple of those also. That would do as the appetisers for the evening for Russell and me, as we then headed further down the road for dinner at JB Ah Meng. There were a few other stalls there selling other food and drinks too, so you can actually have a meal here.

The chicken wings were grilled to perfection – with a nice sticky crisp skin on the wings, and the meat inside was moist. Couldn’t fault it.

The real deal here was the pork belly satay, and what can I say apart from a big “WOW”. When I make pork satay at home, I always make sure that I use pork shoulder as there’s a bit of fat on it to give it the delicious flavour, but why have I never thought of making it with pork belly? Mind you, I am sure Kwong Satay has their secret recipe to make sure the pork belly satay was literally addictive!

All I’d say is – if you are satay lover, make sure you come here for the pork belly satay!
